Saving Keiko

Keiko is not in very good shape although she acts fairly normal besides being a bit traumatized from todays events. She was shaved on her chest/side and doesn't want to stop licking the fur-less areas. She drank quite a bit of water tonight and had a few bites of nom before laying down for a much needed nap.

The Doctor said no matter which diagnosis turn out to be correct, they are all very serious. They did the chest ultrasound and regular x-rays and found "tumor like" masses in her lungs. They need to do biopsy to find out if it is blood clots or an actual tumor. If it is a tumor depending on if it is Adenocarcinoma (untreatable) or lymphoma (somewhat treatable)…

Her heart is not functioning normally in the lower chambers which can cause blood clots as well; also there is a 'large mass' in the bottom of her heart they are not sure if it is a clot or another tumor either... If they find the ‘masses’ to be clots and not tumors then there is a heart medication she can go on to help prevent the clots which the Doctor said would help maintain her quality of life. I asked if that meant days, weeks or months but she could not say.

The bulk will be known after the biopsy is done as far as if she can be medicated or not and how long she can live. I don't know when the biopsy will be done for sure the Doctor is supposed to call me Monday with his recommendation and to get costs finalized. We're already nearing the $1K mark though. This is all very difficult for me to fully grasp right now... I want to thank everyone and their kitties who have been sending purrs, prayers and vet help. You are deeply appreciated and it has helped me cope a little better being able to write/read about it; thank you for helping to save my little baby Keiko! I hope she can pull through all of this somehow...

  3. I'm so sorry about this. I know a little what you're going through as we just lost Bucky. Unfortuantely, we didn't know in advance. It really helps to be able to have that time with them, even if it's not for long. Certainly, I hope Keiko still has lots of time. I know it's so hard on you and her and of course, the high vet bills don't help. Just love her and appreciate the time you have with her and I really hope her condition(s) is treatable.
